    Ideas

Explanation of ideas for my magazine:

    • Since Halloween is soon, an idea for the magazine front cover could be a Halloween edition, which could possibly include people dressed up or Photoshop the school to look 'scary' in way e.g. Photoshop people to look scary such as red eyes or edit in ghosts or edit the school with Halloween decorations. An idea I have for the title of this magazine could be a play on words, pun, such as 'be-ware wood' as the schools original name is Beaverwood.
    • Another idea would be to advertise a trip which is happening with the school e,g, Disney trip, harry potter tour trip or could possibly think of an idea to advertise, as in create a trip which could be happing in the school.
    • Also, an idea I have for my school magazine is, as school magazines are usually done every term, therefore I could do a either winter, spring, summer or autumn term magazine, which would be a more successful idea as there would be more to write about as this is advertising events done over a wider range of time.

    Possible ideas for titles:
    • Beaverwood Times
    • Beaverwood Express
    • Beaverwood News
    • Beaverwood Daily
    • Chislehurst News
    • Chislehurst Express
    • Chislehurst Informer

    Basic conventions of a magazine.

    Basic Conventions of a Magazine
    Front cover:

    • Masthead - a text written at or near the top of the page which indicates the name of the magazine. This is usually written in bold and large font. This is the same on every issue that they produce.
    • Headline - A text written in bold at the top of the article indicating what the article is about.
    • Strap line - This is normally a phrase on the front cover of the magazine that is short and punchy making it memorable. these are good for marketing purposes and draws the audience towards the article.
    • Images - Every front cover has a large image of the main feature of the magazine. This is usually the largest thing on the front page, related to the storyline of the magazine, and is also used to attract the attention of the audience. Some magazines also use small images along the bottom or the side of the front cover giving a wider idea of what's inside the magazine.
    • Logo - This is displayed on the front cover and is the same logo that is on every other magazine that they produce.
    •  Bar code - This is normally displayed at the bottom left of the page, this is scanned when a issue of the magazine is brought.
    • Colour Theme - This is normally the same on every magazine produced by the company, as this gives a sense of reliability and makes the magazine easily recognisable.

    • Typography- There are two basic fonts, serif and san serif used for magazines, the use of the fonts vary from different magazines, serif is more formal and harder to read, where was sans-serif is more blocked and easier to read.

    Contents page:

    •  Headline - The headline for this page is usually the word 'contents' in bold writing across the top of the page.
    • Images - A successful contents page should include 50% images and 50% information.
    •  A contents page has the page numbers and headlines of the articles inside the magazine, sometimes displaying a short paragraph explaining some of the information you'll find inside.
    • Logo -  This is displayed on the page in some place and is the same as the logo that will be presented on the front cover and every other magazine that they produce.
    •  Colour Theme - This is the same as the colour theme used for the front cover.

    Introduction

This blog has been created for the purpose of my AS level media studies for my Chislehurst School magazine which will include a front cover and a contents page. The purpose of a school magazine is to inform parents and careers everything necessary that they need to know, about either the school, students or so on.

In order to create this school magazine it is essential that I research magazines to find out what a normal magazine usually looks like to give me a idea on what I need to do. Whilst looking at these magazines I need to analyse; mise en scene, composition, framing, focus, foreground, the colour, the lighting, the background, text and the audience, as these are all the things i need to include, to succeed, whilst making my school magazine.

A school magazine is a form of publishing information to through a magazine. School magazines used to be disseminated to the readers by being passed through the children to parents and careers or given out through the school, however this has changed as now days school magazines are electronically given out via email to parents and careers and now usually a newsletter. They are usually made by designated students or teachers/adults to make them. The audience for school magazines are usually parents or careers for the students that attend that school,as if they give information which is necessary for them and inform them what is going on, everything they need to know. Each school, either grammar, secondary or primary school has a different school magazine as they may be done different or each information is different for each school.
